Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered deputy commissioners (DC) to make the list of homeless people again, so the government can provide them with a home during the coronavirus outbreak.
She made the statement while addressing a videoconference with the concerned deputy commissioners (DCs) and officials of 17 districts under Khulna and Barisal divisions from her official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka around 10am on Sunday.
The prime minister said: “It is a promise we made in Mujib Year that no one will be left homeless.”
“You will make the list of the homeless people in your districts and we will provide them with homes,” the premier ordered the deputy commissioners.
Earlier in the conference, deputy commissioner of Bhola district said some of the people living there became homeless due to river erosion.
Last week, the prime minister had held another a videoconference with the DCs and officials concerned of 15 districts under Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
The week before, she had addressed officials of all 64 districts in the country over the coronavirus situation, giving a number of directives to handle the situation better and prevent further spread of the virus.
