The Ministry of Religious Affairs has ordered deputy commissioners (DC) across the country to ensure that those who wish to offer prayers on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat do so at their respective homes, and not at mosques.
“Muslims will offer prayers during Shab-e-Barat at their respective homes, in line with the social distancing policy of the government to battle against coronavirus,” the order said, asking deputy commissioners of all districts to take necessary initiatives in this regard.
Shab-e-Barat is scheduled to be observed across the country on the night of April 9.
Usually, such religious occasions are observed with mass gatherings at mosques. Thousands of Muslims stay at the mosques overnight to offer special prayers.
Earlier, the Islamic Foundation urged all Muslims to offer prayers on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat at their respective homes instead of at mosques, to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
The request was made in a press release signed by Anis Mahmud, director general of the Islamic Foundation.
