Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had no jurisdiction in the matter of considering a plea for the release of detained BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
“It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to deal with such issues”, he said.
Kamal was talking to reporters after inaugurating the Hajj Service Booth at the Passport Directorate in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday.
"Her (Khaleda Zia) family placed an appeal over her health issue to the home ministry. We sent it to the law ministry seeking its legal opinion and the law ministry will take the next step in this regard," said the home minister.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's family members applied to the home ministry for her "temporary" release a few days ago, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters on Sunday.
