Hindu Buddhist Christian Council concerned over Indian Citizenship Act

Muslims with no citizenship from India will be scared and may enter into Bangladesh

Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Council Unity Front have expressed deep concern over the citizenship bill which was passed in the Indian Parliament.

The Front expressedits concern in a press conference at National Press Club on Thursday.

Convener of the front Gautam Chakraborty read out a written statement in the press conference.

It said: “Minorities of both India and Bangladesh will be panicked and the majority will also feel sad due to this discriminatory citizenship act."

“Muslims who have no citizenship in India will be scared and day by day they will enter in to Bangladesh, and that flow has started already.”

“Both governments should take such steps which will ensure the security of minorities in Bangladesh,” it the statement said.

It pointed out some attack, torture, murder, vandalizing of temple and encroachment of minorities property in Bangladesh such as the attack on Buddha temple at Ramu, the attack on Hindus at Nasir Nagar, rape of a  Hindu female college student in Pabna, murder of Bisawajit at old Dhaka, encroachment of minority property by a ruling party MP at Thakurgaon and encroachment of Jamiderbari at Faridpur by a running minister.

Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Adviser of the organization said: “Hindus will want to go to India, meanwhile Muslims from India will try to enter into Bangladesh whichcould create a dangerous situation."

“We believe in democracy where all citizens from all religions will enjoy equal rights. We do not support discrimination. Demonstration is ongoing across India, we express solidarity with those who are fighting for equal rights,” he said.

“The government is saying that the relationship of India and Bangladesh is on a massive height, so we want them to discuss and protest the matter as soon as possible with the Indian Government.” he added.

Other leaders of the front were present in the press conference.
