Update : 29 Sep 2019, 04:58 PM

The program development unit of Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights (BSEHR) will launch a month long awareness campaign throughout Bangladesh to stop child marriage.

The campaign will start from October 4, 2019 and will continue till November 4, 2019, said a press release.

The aim of this campaign will be to create mass awareness among people on the drawbacks of child marriage and the contemporary law on it. The events under this country wide campaign will mainly be discussion meeting, yard meeting, community campaign, school meeting, street drama, meeting with the Union Parishad and cultural programs.

Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights (BSEHR) has been working  since its inception in 1977 for the promotion and protection of human rights, mainly for the poor, disadvantaged and vulnerable people, especially women and children, through education, awareness raising programs, legal support services, and research and policy advocacy.

Through its 358 active branches all over the country and the partner organizations, BSEHR will arrange this massive anti-child marriage campaign in Bangladesh, even at union level, the Executive Director of BSEHR Mr Mostafa Sohel said in his statement.

He added that expected results might not be observable right away but it is our goal that as policy makers, opinion/religious leaders, and civil society are made aware of this issue, they become more committed for actions against child marriage, and also the mass people will be more aware of the negative sides of child marriage and the law related to it.
