NBR to offer sweets to taxpayers on Chaitra Sankranti

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has planned to offer sweets to the taxpayers marking the upcoming Chaitra Sankranti, the last day of the last month of the Bangla Year. NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman said this on Wednesday at a pre-budget discussion meeting with journalists from the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF). "We will offer our taxpayers sweets at our offices across the country, as they pay their taxes in a respectable atmosphere," said NBR chief. He said that NBR will also celebrate Halkhata on Pahela Baishakh. Halkhata, a part of traditions of Bengali New Year, was introduced in the era of Mughal Emperor Akbar to collect back taxes. ERF General Secretary Ziaur Rahman, along with others, was present at the meeting.
