The first namaj-e-janaza of Bangladeshi Ambassador to Brazil and former foreign secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes has been held at Foreign Ministry.
The foreign minister, secretary and other officials attended the janaza around 8:30am on Monday.
Mijarul Quayes’s body will be kept at Central Shaheed Minar for the people to pay their last respects from 10am to 12pm and another janaza will be held at Gulshan Central Mosque later in the day.
The former foreign secretary will be laid to rest at Banani graveyard Tuesday.
His body will be taken to his village home in Kishoreganj's Pakundia upazila via a helicopter Tuesday for another janaza.
He will be brought back to Dhaka the same day and laid to rest at Banani graveyard beside his parents' graves.

His body was brought to Bangladesh on Sunday night.
Mijarul died on March 10 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Brazil.
He was made ambassador to Brazil in 2014 after his removal as the High Commissioner to UK. He was previously Bangladesh’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia.
Quayes, a career diplomat, joined the civil service in 1982.
