HC denies bail to Farmers Bank ex-audit committee chairman

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order after rejecting a rule on his bail

The High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of Mahbubul Haque Chisty (Babul Chisty), former chairman of Farmers Bank’s audit committee, in a graft case filed for embezzling Tk9 lakh.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order after rejecting a rule on his bail.

The ACC filed the case with Gulshan Police Station for embezzling the money on August 8 last year, reports UNB.

According to the case statement, he visited London and United Arab Emirates from August 19-28 in 2017, spending Tk9, 24,673 in the name of business meeting.

After rejection of bail by the lower court, he filed bail petition with HC on November 18.

The HC on November 19 issued a rule asking the government and the ACC to explain why Chisty should not be granted bail in the case.

Barrister Shafiq Ahmed and barrister Mahbub Shafiq stood for the accused, attorney general Mahbubey Alam for the state and lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan for the ACC.
