8 organisations to evaluate Korail slum fire losses

Update : 17 Mar 2017, 03:26 PM
Some eight government and private organisations will survey the amount of losses incurred due to the recent fire at Korail slum near Dhaka’s Gulshan area. The survey which started 3pm, will be completed by 5pm Friday under the supervision of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). On a spot visit, it was seen that some volunteer organisations had been providing clothes and healthcare services to the fire victims. The victims were seen trying to resume their regular life. DNCC’s local ward commissioner Md Mafizur Rahman arranged the lunch for the slum dwellers on Friday. “We are yet to know the amount of loss. So, we have started the survey,” Mafizur told the Dhaka Tribune. Regional coordinator of Urban Development Programme Chowdhury Md Rajib said: “We had fixed our work strategy after discussing with several groups since morning.” A devastating fire hit the Korail slum on early Thursday which burnt down around 3,000 shanties.
