The ruling Awami League has asked everyone to be aware of fake Facebook profiles that are intentionally spreading false news, and urged the people to only follow pages verified by Facebook.
“Fake Facebook profiles have been created under the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, as well as under the name of her sister Sheikh Rehana and her son Radwan Mujib Siddiq,” said a press release issued on Friday.
“We would like to inform that there are no official Facebook pages under the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, or her sister Sheikh Rehana,” it added.
The press release also asked the admins of the fake pages to declare them as unofficial, saying that legal action would be taken against them for spreading misinformation otherwise.
