“There is the possibility of Tripura exporting 60MW more electricity to Bangladesh, which the central government has approved of. We can even sign the concerned agreement within March,” said Manik.
Tripura currently exports 100MW of electricity to Bangladesh generated by the Palatana power plant. Recently, the state government expressed its wish to export a further 100MW to Bangladesh, generated by the Monarchak power plant, with the central government.
The Monarchak power plant project is being operated by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO). Though the Monarchk power plant has yet to be officially inaugurated, it is operating on a trial basis. The power plant has a capacity of generating 101MW of electricity.
NEEPCO Chairman-cum-Managing Director AGW Kharkundar said: “Because we are facing certain problems due to a shortage in gas supply, the plant is currently able to generate 75MW electricity in spite of its 101MW capacity.
The CMD reportedly urged Minister Manik to discuss the Monarchak gas shortage with the central government.
