Update : 12 Aug 2018, 09:03 PM

The producers of poultry and fish feeds from now on will have to use jute bags for packaging their products in line with a government order, making it obligatory

The Textiles and Jute Ministry recently issued a notification in this regard, said a press release on Sunday, reports UNB.

"The government made the use of jute bags mandatory for preserving and transporting poultry and fish feeds by amending further the Jute Packaging Rules, 2013, exercising its power given in the Article 22 of the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act of 2010," read the release.

With the two new products, the government has so far made the use of jute bags mandatory for packaging of 19 items.

In 2010, the government had passed the Jute Packaging Act, making use of jute mandatory in packaging of a number of food items, including paddy, rice, wheat, corn, sugar, chilli, turmeric, ginger, onion, garlic, coriander and flour, and fertilizer.

Three years later, the rules were formulated to facilitate the implementation of the law with a view to boosting domestic use of jute bags instead of synthetic.
