Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the people of Bangladesh not to pay heed to rumours and become confused by propaganda.
"A vested quarter is trying to create an unstable situation in the country through propaganda. Please do not pay heed to any rumour and do not become confused by propaganda," she said on Sunday.
The prime minister made the statement while inaugurating optical fiber connectivity in 300 unions of 10 districts via video conference from her official residence Ganobhaban.
She said: "Whatever you see or hear, first verify those. Please do not believe anything without verification, especially I request of the school students and young folks," she said.
A total of 300 unions of: Kurigram, Nilphamari, Bogra, Netrakona, Habiganj, Patuakhali, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Rajshahi, and Chandpur were linked through optical fiber connectivity under “National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Development (Info-Sarker Third Phase).”
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, and State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, also spoke at the inauguration program, reports UNB.
The prime minister also exchanged views with beneficiaries from five districts.
The main goals of the Info-Sarker 3rd Phase project include setting up optical fibre connectivity in a total 2,600 unions and a Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing network in 400 upazilas in 64 districts.
Addressing the program, Mustafa Jabbar said government is taking measures make internet network available in very remote areas by using Bangabandhu Satellite-1.
Minister Palak said some 10,000,000 people will be connected by high-speed broadband —when this project is implemented.
Principal Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Md Nojibur Rahman conducted the event, while ICT Division Secretary Zuena Aziz made a presentation about the project.
