Bangladesh has presided over a meeting on the implementation of the "United Nations Counter-Terrorism Strategy" held at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday.
Masud Bin Momen, ambassador and permanent representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, chaired the meeting, BSS reported.
Speaking on the occasion, Momen said the meeting was a significant step to increase the capacity of the UN to implement the strategy to counter global terrorism.
“We would have to work together to strengthen global efforts to fight terrorism after detecting the elements that inspire terrorism,” he said.
UN Secretary-General Ant¢nio Guterres gave a speech on the guidelines to counter terrorism and some proposals to build the capacity of the UN to this end.
The meeting was arranged by President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thompson at the UN headquarters in New York.
Representatives of the UN member states demanded an initiative from the UN Secretary-General to increase the UN capacity to fight terrorism.
The UN Secretary-General is expected to present his specific proposals at its General Assembly within a few weeks.
