Bangladesh police rescued an abducted Indian citizen along the Sreebardi Border area in Sherpur on Saturday.

According to the local police, the victim, Falgun Areng, 67, was kidnapped from his own home at Hatimarak village of Tura District in Meghalaya on May 23, by a gang of 7 or 8 miscreants.

The kidnappers brought Falgun to Bangladesh and confined him to a residence in the border region. However, the victim managed to escape on Saturday morning.

Following his escape into the nearby jungle, Falgun took refuge at his relative Pranjal Areng’s home in Christanpara village the same day. He was later taken into protective custody by the local police.

Sreebardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Haque told the Dhaka Tribune: “Falgun is in our protective custody after his rescue. He will soon be handed over to his relatives following proper legal procedure.”
