Prime Minister pays tribute at the Mausoleum of Bangabandhu

The prime minister also gave Eid gifts to 300 orphaned children during her visit to Gopalganj

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at the Mausoleum of Bangabandhu at Tungipara in Gopalganj district.

Sheikh Hasina reached Tungipara via a helicopter around 10:55am on Saturday. Her sister Sheikh Rehana accompanied her on the visit.

The prime minister and her sister stood at the Mausoleum in silence for a few moments, then recited the Sura Al-Fatiha and took part in a special prayer for Bangabandhu and the late members of her family.

Senior military and civil officials were present during her visit.

After paying her respects, the prime minister visited the Sheikh Russel Training and Rehabilitation Center for Children at Risk, an organization established in memory of her younger brother. She gave Eid gifts to 300 orphaned children at the centre. The prime minister personally handed gifts to 15 children. 

The children expressed gratitude and pride after receiving the Eid gifts from the prime minister.

Deputy Director of Gopalganj Social Services Department Samir Mallik said: “The prime minister personally handed gifts to 15 children. We delivered gifts to the other children ourselves. The children are overjoyed.”

Afterwards, Sheikh Hasina exchanged greetings with the local Awami League workers and activists. Awami League Gopalganj unit President Emdadul Haque and General Secretary Mahbub Ali Khan were present at the program among others.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned to Dhaka the same day.
