Update : 13 Feb 2017, 01:37 AM
Three senior officials of Padma Bridge project – Bridges Division Secretary Mosharraf Hossain who is now the senior secretary of industry ministry, Superintendent Engineer of the project Kazi Mohammad Ferdous and Executive Engineer Arif Javed – had to spend  45 days in prison following a case filed over the WB’s false allegation by the ACC. Contacted, Kazi Ferdous who is now the project director of Dhaka elevated expressway, told the Dhaka Tribune: “We are still in government service. As per service rules, we need government permission to file a case against World Bank. “On the other hand, we were sent to prison in a case filed by the ACC, not the WB. So, it is not clear at all why we would file any case against World bank,” he added. Responding to this, the law minister said “victims should file defamation cases to seek compensation from the World Bank.” Asked what Bangladesh’s losses were due to the allegation, Anisul said the country had actually benefited because it would not need to pay interests to the WB.
