Hailing the draft of the National Defence Policy 2018, TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman has said it is a significant milestone which is compatible with the policies and strategies undertaken by the government to ensure good governance.
In a press statement, TIB urged the government to create opportunities for the citizens to provide feedback regarding the draft, which has recently been approved by the Cabinet.

“The main principles of the defence policy will be transparency, accountability, and public participation,” the executive director said.
He added that defence expenditure will gain more public support if the government starts the practice of publishing detailed information about the defence budget and expenses to establish transparency and accountability in the defence sector.
Citizens’ participation and opinion giving practice is an integral part of democratic practice and people have every right to obtain detailed information about the long awaited defence policy, he added.
