The incident took place near the international border pillar 1057 early Friday morning. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said the man was a cattle trader.
The victim is a 55-year-old known locally as Tulu Mia. Locals claim he was an Indian citizen who had married a Bangladeshi and had been living in Kurigram for the last three years.
BGB 35 (Jamalpur) Director Lt Col Md Atikur Rahman said that Indian Border Security Force's (BSF) 57 battalion personnel hurled a handmade bomb at a group of cattle traders when they went to Chhat Koraibari border area.
He said that Tulu had died on spot. "Injured Sifat is taking treatment in hiding."
BGB held a flag meeting with BSF about the incident.
A BSF company commander led a six-member team to the meeting while BGB's Nayek Subedar Hasan led the Bangladeshi side.
BGB protested the bombing during the meeting but BSF denied its involvement.
Tulu's body was sent to Kurigram Sadar Hospital morgue.
