Ninth wage board for journalists starts functioning

The newly formed ninth wage board for journalists started functioning on Tuesday with its chairman former justice Md Nizamul Haque holding separate meetings with Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and his deputy Tarana Halim at their respective offices in Dhaka. Justice Nizamul first called on Hasanul Haque Inu and discussed various aspects of the wage board. He thanked the government for selecting him as the chairman of the board. The information minister welcomed him and urged to formulate an outline of the wage board activities. Information Secretary Md Nasir Uddin and Joint Secretary (Press) and the ninth wage board’s Member Secretary Md Mizan ul Islam were present at the meetings. Nizamul also called on State Minister for Information Tarana Halim at her office at the ministry and held discussions on the activities of the wage board. The chairman later visited the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) and selected a portion of the second floor of the PIB Old Building for setting up the board’s office. PIB Director General Md Shah Alamgir and Wage Board Member Secretary Mizan ul Islam accompanied the chairman. The government on January 29 formed the 13-member wage board for the journalists headed by retired Appellate Division Judge Md Nizamul Huque.
