7 Chittagong cops to be awarded with BPM, PPM

Seven police officers from Chittagong will be awarded with Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM) on January 8. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will give the medals to the police officers for their courageous performance, and outstanding contributions in the field of service. The highest honour will be accorded at a function of Police Week 2018 which is scheduled to begin on January 8 in Dhaka’s Razarbag Police Lines. The awardees are Chittagong district Superintendent of Police Noor El Alam Mina, Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner and Chittagong Commander of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Mirza Sayem Mahmud, Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda police station Iftekhar Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Akbar Shah police station Alamgir Mahmud, Chittagong Metro Inspector of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Santosh Kumar Chakma, SWAT’s Assistant Town Sub-Inspector (ATSI) Zihad Hossain and Reserve Officer (RO) of Chittagong district police Shafiqul Islam. A total of 182 officials will receive the PPM and BPM awards. Of them, 124 police officials are going to be awarded with PPM while the rest will be awarded with the BPM. Chittagong SP Noor E Alam Mina will be awarded with BPM-courage while Mirza Sayem, Iftekhar Hasan and Zihad Hossain will receive PPM-courage in recognition of his courageous performance during “Operation Assault 16” at a militant den in Sitakunda. PBI Inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma has been nominated for PPM for the second time for successfully investigating as many as 12 mysterious cases. Officer-in-Charge of Akbar Shah police station Alamgir Mahmud has been nominated for PPM-service award for recovering a newborn baby from garbage. Shafiqul Islam will receive PPM-service for his administrative works.
