Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has warned that relatives of terror suspect Akayed Ullah would be meted out severe punishment if evidence of any militant link is found against them.
The home minister sounded the note of warning while speaking to reporters following a security meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by top level officials of different law enforcement agencies.
“Akayed Ullah is a US citizen, who has been living in that country since 2011. He has been investigated by the US authorities, and in Bangladesh, his relatives are being questioned by the law enforcers,” Asaduzzaman told the reporters.
“We will take action against any family member of Akayed’s found engaged in militant activities,” he added.
Speaking about the repatriation of the killers of Bangladeshi intellectuals during the 1971 Liberation War, the home minister said: “The process to repatriate the killers of intellectuals and also the killers of Bangabandhu, and bring them to justice, is ongoing.”
US and New York State prosecutors on Tuesday brought separate charges against suspected Manhattan bomber Akayed Ullah, accusing him of using a weapon of mass destruction in Monday’s bombing of a Manhattan commuter hub.

He was charged in a criminal complaint filed in Manhattan federal court with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, bombing a public place, destruction of property by means of explosive and use of a destructive device.
