Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. According to police and family sources, the family heard a gunshot from inside the victim’s room on Sunday afternoon around 5:15pm. They broke open the door, which was locked from inside, and found her lying on the floor with blood pooling around her. She was rushed to Square Hospital where the doctors on duty declared her dead around 7pm. Her body was later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy around 8:30pm. A family member, seeking anonymity, said Sufia was mentally unstable since 2007 and she committed suicide with a licensed gun. However, the family member did not reveal the name of the gun owner.
