Australian journos investigating Raudha murder allegedly forced out of Bangladesh

Update : 15 Oct 2017, 04:13 PM
A group of Australian journalists has alleged that the authorities of Bangladesh forced them out of the country when they were trying to investigate the unnatural death of Maldivian model Raudha Athif. The team of the journalists came to Bangladesh to investigate the unnatural death of a 21-year-old second-year medical student Raudha who was studying at the Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi. Even though police and the autopsy report say it was a suicide, there are claims that it was planned murder. According to Peter Stefanovic, a member of the journalists' team, Bangladesh law enforcement officials suddenly tightened security around them when he asked his escorting police official what if the autopsy report was wrong, and sent them back to their hotel, reported Australian 9news. Police took away their passports and asked them not to leave their hotel due to security concerns. They were also asked not to film anything in Rajshahi town. However, after 24 hours of hotel confinement, police escorted them to the airport. Peter wrote on Sydney-based the 9news: "It was a fairly dramatic escalation, and being in that situation, you can't help but wonder what the hell is going to happen. What had we done wrong? Were we going to be allowed out?" "We were on official journalist visas, so we were allowed into the country. But as it turned out, the relevant authorities didn't like the sound of any negative story attached to Bangladesh, so we were done," he added. However, the journalists could record what they needed for their television programme "60 Minutes" in Australia.
