Holy Ashura to be observed on Sunday

Update : 01 Oct 2017, 01:17 AM
The Holy Ashura, marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), will be observed throughout the country on Sunday, October 1, with due religious fervour and solemnity. On this day in the Hijri year of 61, Hazrat Imam, the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family members and 72 followers, embraced martyrdom at the hands of Yazid's soldiers at the desert of Karbala. The day is a public holiday. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion, and the Shia community will bring out Tazia processions in the city. The Tajia procession will start from Imambara Husaini Dalan in Old Dhaka. Law enforcers have implemented additional security measures around Imambara Husaini Dalan to ensure smooth observance of Holy Ashura. Apart from the Husaini Dalan area, police will be deployed on the rooftops of several buildings at major points in the neighbourhood as part of elevated security measures. Police have also banned lethal weapons such as knives and swords during the Tajia procession.
