Update : 11 Dec 2016, 05:35 PM
The convention was organised by the state-owned Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL) as part of its national awareness campaign. Stressing on the price of “hollow bricks,” AMA Muhith said: “The price of hollow bricks are almost equal to soil bricks nowadays. We are working on this and I will also request producers to increase their produce.” Environment specialist A Atik Rahman made a key-note presentation at the event on the recent scenario of brick fields and environment pollution. He suggested to establish a self-motivated, sustainable and commercially viable brick market for the development of the country. He emphasised on the need for turning brick manufacturing sector into an industry. BIFFL Executive Director and CEO SM Formanul Islam said: “The existing seven to eight thousand traditional brick kilns in the country cause 34% of our industrial pollution.” He added: “To attain the government's vision for sustainable development and commitment to building a greener Bangladesh, it is essential to promote the green brick industries as an alternative solution to replace the traditional technology that causes pollution.” During the event, BIFFL also handed over its dividend of the year 2015, Tk82 crore, to the finance minister. The organisation already invested in seven auto-brick projects along with twenty other projects that will start in pipelines soon. Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir, Country Director of Asian Development Bank Kazuhiko Higuichi and Suraiya Begum, secretary of Prime Minister's Office were present at the convention as special guests while Senior Secretary of Finance Division and Chairman of BIFFL Mahbub Ahmed presided over the event.
