  • Duel to be live-streamed
  • They have yet to announce fight date
Update : 09 Aug 2023, 05:40 PM

Celebrity boxing contests have become commonplace, and tech titans Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have recently made news by announcing their plan to compete in the ring of boxing, pushing the tendency of turning practically everything into entertainment to an extreme.

The "Zuck vs Musk" duel will be live-streamed, Elon Musk said on his recently launched social media site X, previously known as Twitter. Musk promised that all event earnings would go to veteran-supporting charitable endeavours.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that they have to think about utilizing a more trustworthy platform capable of successfully generating money for philanthropic organizations.

The rumours of this fight first started when Zuckerberg disclosed his plans to introduce Threads, a competing text-based platform, earlier this year. Musk's tweet from June 20 seemed to make fun of Zuckerberg's growing data-collecting operations, implying that his influence was about to monopolize the Earth.

In the midst of the social media teasing, Musk reacted jokingly to X users who teased him about Zuckerberg's jiu-jitsu skills, offering to fight in a cage battle.

Zuckerberg extended the tale by simply responding, "Send me the location," to the conversation on social media, which was already bordering on dystopian. Insiders said Zuckerberg privately questioned if the brawl actually took place to his Meta coworkers.

Mark Zuckerberg, the 16th richest person in the world, then suggested August 26 as a prospective date for the match.

The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, retaliated by suggesting the Vegas Octagon as the location. The event was dubbed the "Thrilla In The Meta" by internet users as a result of Musk's lighthearted bragging about his novel technique, "The Walrus," an admission that he seldom works out.

Zuckerberg, on the other hand, demonstrated his abilities by taking home trophies in a recent jiu-jitsu competition.

Despite their constant banter, the two powerful people have not decided on a date. This is especially important because Musk mentioned that he could require surgery before the match owing to health issues. Musk said he would get an MRI of his neck and upper back and could need surgery before the battle could start in a post on his social media site X.

Musk continued to get humorous jabs from Zuckerberg, who tweeted that he was not very certain the two would engage in combat. However, Elon Musk's partner and mother of two of his children, Grimes, stated in an interview with Wired that she thought the fight would actually happen. She noted Musk's strength and Zuckerberg's obvious commitment to training.

Despite her worries, Grimes said she sees the event favourably because it would not result in any major harm. She acknowledged that it was unsettling to see the father of her children get into a violent altercation.

Even Grimes chimed in, saying that a subsequent event should include other notable figures from the tech world like Sam Altman and Demis Hassabis. When asked what the point of the fight was, Elon Musk described it as a "civilized form of war," attributing the appeal to the draw of men's natural need for conflict.
