A newly built skyscraper in Toky, Japan, which took years to make, has been completed. The gleaming skyscraper is part of an expansive “modern urban village.”
Reaching 330 meters in height, the tower passes the former tallest building in Japan, the Abeno Harukas skyscraper in Osaka, which stands at 300 meters. The tower bears a striking resemblance to flower petals with its gently curved edges.
The tower, whose complete erection was announced on Monday, is a part of the Azabudai Hills complex, which has been under construction since 2019. With just “final touches” left to do in the coming months, it will not be long till the Azabudai Hills complex opens.
The project, which spans an area of more than eight hectares, plans to revitalize a whole neighborhood, with luxurious amenities, including a spa, fitness clubs, an art gallery and a museum. The different structures will make up a “city within a city,” developers said.
The lofty building will be a multi-purpose building, one of the several within the project. According to a release, it will be hosting branded hotel residences, office spaces, university medical center, retail shops and restaurants, and the largest international school in central Tokyo.
“To accommodate local traffic, we even constructed new roads running through the complex,” according to the website. The wider development plans on holding about 20,000 employees and 3,500 residents, along with a projected 25-35 million visitors per year.
Renowned US architecture firm Pelli Clarke & Partners designed the skyscraper. According to CNN, the architects who worked on the project said residential interiors honor Japanese craftsmanship and lifestyle, reflecting traditional Japanese home layouts.
While a very tall tower, the Azabudai Hills skyscraper is tiny compared to other towers in New York, Taiwan and Dubai. Japan aims to change this with its new torch-inspired building, with a height of 390 meters, planned to be completed in 2027.
