A Minnesota teen, Monalisa Perez, has been charged over the “fatal shooting” of her boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz, in what authorities say was “a social media stunt gone wrong,” reports BBC.
The nineteen-year-old, Monalisa, was taken into the county jail after she shot Pedro during a stunt. He held a book to his chest – believing it would block the bullet.
There were at least 30 viewers online as she fired the bullet into his chest. The couple's three-year-old son was also present in the scene.
According to Pedro's aunt, Claudia Ruiz, the couple did the stunt to get more followers on their YouTube channel.
However, Claudia asked them not to execute the stunt, she told WDAY-TV: "He had told me about that idea and I said, 'Don't do it. Don't do it. Why are you going to use a gun? Why?' They were in love, they loved each other. It was just a prank gone wrong."
Monalisa is charged with second degree manslaughter. She will appear in court on Wednesday.
Monalisa is currently expecting another son. Last week, she shared with her viewers that it was a "blessing” to have Pedro home for the birth of their second son, who is due in September.
The couple's most recent uploaded video was titled: "Doing scary stunts at the fair." This was uploaded on the day that Ruiz died.
