Son buries father in £66,000 BMW in Nigeria

Locals joked that the BMW’s satellite navigation system would help the man find his way to heaven

A Nigerian man called Azubuike buried his deceased father in a £66,000 BMW to fulfil his promise of buying him a car.

Nigerian news website NAIJ.com reported that Azubuike paid for the car in cash.

The grave for car and man was dug by hand in the village of the deceased, and a picture showing the shiny silver car being lowered into the grave has gone viral on social media.

Locals joked that the BMW’s satellite navigation system would help the man find his way to heaven.

However, many others were not as amused at the blatant waste of money in a village in a poor region. One person said one should buy cars for parents while they are still alive, and a coffin, when they are dead – condemning the act as showing off.

Another social media user wrote: “This is the sort of thing that keeps us poor as black people.’

Yet another touted the act as insane and selfish.

In 2015, an Enugu billionaire buried his mother in a Hummer, while a man was buried in his favourite car in China.
