When we think of police dogs, the image of German Shepherds and Labradors come to mind. However, the state government of India’s West Bengal has incorporated local breeds in the police force.
According to Ananda Bazar, a local dog named Asha joined the Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy alongside foreign dogs. After six months of training, police sources said Asha can detect explosives and salute too! All the other dogs in the facility are wary of her fierceness.
According to sources from the police academy, Asha is very competitive and as good as the foreign dogs.
Every dog has its individual task in the police force – Asha has been trained to detect explosives.
