In an emergency surgery, a veterinarian team on Monday were able to remove a swollen tongue of an Asiatic black bear in Myanmar.
Due to a parasitic infection carried by mosquitoes, his tongue became abnormally swollen and heavy which weighed three kilograms. His tongue was dangling on the floor refraining him from closing his mouth.
The two-year-old bear, Nyan htoo, is popularly known as a moon bear for having a remarkable golden crescent on his chest. He was rescued from Burmese traffickers and was brought to the vets due to his condition last year, reports The Guardian.

Vets had to make a difficult decision of removing the bear's tongue, after several failed attempts of removing excessive tissue.
They said that such parasitic infection is unprecedented in bears. It will take the bear a little while to get adapted to his new condition.
