Expatriate Bangladeshi Hossein Alamgir’s bravery saved young Italian journalist Gaia Guarnotta from a gang-rape attempt by 25 drunk men on the streets of Florence.
The Bangla Tribune got in touch with Italian Journalist Rossella Conte to get further details about the incident.
She said on the night of October 14, Gaia, 25, was waiting for a friend on a street named Pizza De La Republica.
"Twenty-five drunk men tried to abduct her, but Alamgir risked his life to rescue the woman," she said. "The incident was later covered by a local news media La Nacion.”
The Bangla Tribune collected Alangir's phone number from Conte and contacted him.
Alamgir said he supplied flowers to other vendors and was out on the street that night to oversee his business.
“I found Gaia crying on the sidewalk. I asked her what is wrong, but she replied in Italian, so I left her alone," he said.

He said: "I went to check up on her a few minutes later and saw around 25 drunk hooligans trying to take her away by force. They were also hurling abuses at her.
"Around 12 of the harassers ran away as soon as they saw me. I got into a scuffle with the rest, and managed to rescue the woman.”
When asked about the aftermath of the incident, Alamgir said: “Gaia introduced herself as a photographer, and said she was lost. I escorted her to her destination. She took a photo of me before leaving.”
Gaia later posted the incident on Facebook post and thanked Alamgir for saving her.
Aalamgir has been living in Italy for 12 years, but his family lives in Dhaka. He has a son and a daughter.
