Chinese man imprisoned for teaching Islam

A Chinese court has awarded a Muslim man with two years' imprisonment for forming online discussion groups to teach Islam. Chinese law enforcement officials arrested 49-year-old Huang Shike in 2016, three months after he formed WeChat groups that taught the religion to at least 100 people. The online groups have disturbed normal religious activity and violated laws about using the internet to discuss religion, China Judgments Online said. The Chinese authorities have recently increased surveillance and police patrol on the Muslim minority that consists of at least 20 million people. Chinese officials have increasingly urged local governments to better assimilate Muslim minorities into Han Chinese culture.
