Earlier on Monday, Minister of Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the press that a nationwide ban on public gatherings will be in effect on New Year’s Eve after 6pm.The responses range from cynical to outrage, as many find it preposterous that a government would impose a ban on celebrating an occasion that takes place globally. There are many who support the ban in light of the terrorist attacks this year, lending support to the government ban.The ban has limitations, as it constitutes only celebrations in public places. Authorities concerned have said celebrations could take place indoors with prior permission from the police.
