Captain Afeida ready for tough Thailand test

Bangladesh U-20 women’s national football team captain Afeida Khandakar has said the side is fully prepared and bracing for a challenging encounter against hosts Thailand on Wednesday in their opening Group match of the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup.

Afeida, who recently led Bangladesh in their historic maiden Women’s Asian Cup campaign in Australia, expressed confidence in the squad’s condition ahead of the tournament opener.

“The team is in very good condition right now. The players have recovered well from the two practice matches and are mentally fresh. We are expecting a fighting match against Thailand,” the centre-back said in a video message on Monday.

She added that the team have been following the coaching staff’s instructions closely in camp as they fine-tune preparations for the crucial first fixture.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh completed their second official training session at the Alpine Training Camp (Pitch 2) in Bangkok. The session included structured warm-ups, technical drills and possession-based exercises, followed by scenario-based match simulations.

The coaching staff worked intensively with the players to replicate real-game situations, both in and out of possession, in a bid to sharpen tactical awareness and improve decision-making.

Despite the hot and humid conditions in Thailand, the players displayed strong commitment, discipline and energy throughout the session.

Team officials confirmed that all players remain in good physical condition, with no major injury concerns ahead of the tournament opener.
