Butler full of praise after Bangladesh women hold higher-ranked Jordan

Bangladesh women's football team played out a 2-2 draw against hosts Jordan in the second and last match of the tri-nation friendly series in Amman Tuesday.

Bangladesh earlier held Indonesia to a goalless draw in the first game.

Both Indonesia and Jordan are ranked much higher than the women in red and green.

Bangladesh are ranked 133rd while Jordan are 74th and Indonesia 94th in the latest FIFA women's football rankings.

Jordan went ahead early in the fifth minute before Shamsunnahar Jr equalised two minutes prior to the half time whistle.

The home side took the lead again in the 58th minute but Shaheda Akter Ripa came off the bench to restore parity in the 82nd minute.

"I thought at times we outplayed them and we out battled them (Jordan). There was a physical disadvantage there. But no, I'm just really, really proud," said Bangladesh coach Peter Butler after the match.

"Difficult coming to places like this when you're up against it, but it's been a wonderful learning week. Playing against higher opposition is not easy, but I think we've come a long way," he added.

"We play good football. We've got a clear identity of actually how we want to play and how I want the team to play. But more importantly, I think I'm just, without getting myself into trouble, I think I'd just rather say girls are fantastic, well done, fully deserved it and it just goes to show, with hard work, sometimes you reap what you sow. So I'm really, really proud of the girls."

Butler's charges played this tri-nation series as part of their preparations for the upcoming AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers, where they will face Myanmar, Bahrain, and Turkmenistan.
