Bangladesh A beaten by Afghanistan A in four-day match

Bangladesh A team received a big setback as they lost against the visiting Afghanistan A side in their first four-day match of the tour convincingly by seven wickets on Monday at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna.

On the last day of the game, the Afghanistan side needed 172 runs to clinch the match and despite losing three wickets within 71 runs, they reached the target without any more hiccups.

Opener Ibarahim Zaman anchored the innings and navigated his side home with a patient 76-run innings. His unbeaten innings came off 164 balls and lasted for 259 minutes.

He got a great support in the likes of his skipper Nasir Jamal, who remained not out on 59, as the pair added 102 runs off 186 balls in the business end of the game to seal it in their favour.

But the day started with the man of the match Qais Ahmed, who picked up the last remaining wicket of the Bangladesh side, to take his tally to seven wickets in the innings.

The hosts resumed the day on 170-9 but the leg-spinner Qais did not take much time to dislodge the last pair and set an achievable target for his batsmen.

Qais also made important contribution with the bat as he scored highest 46 runs in their first innings when his side made 257 runs replying hosts’ 253.

Anamul Haque made 121 runs in the first innings for the Bangladesh side.

The second and final unofficial Test match will start at Chittagong on Friday.
