Joy ton scripts incredible series win over England U-19

Bangladesh U-19 cricket team produced a fantastic win over the visiting England U-19 by three wickets chasing 333 on the fourth and final day in Chittagong to clinch the two-match Youth Test series 2-0.

The young Tigers resumed the last day needing 299 with nine wickets in hand and initially their target was to salvage the match but middle-order batsman Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored a splendid 114 to make the local side victorious.

Joy, who faced 224 balls in his innings and hit 13 boundaries, batted over five hours and got great help from Towhid Hridoy as the duo made a match-winning 142-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Earlier in the day, opener Tanzid Hasan made 51 while one-down Parvez Hasan, who added 54 for the third wicket with Joy, made 37 before the big stand.

Towhid, who played 145 in his almost three-hour knock, was cleaned up when the score was 263 and captain Akbar Ali soon followed him with just five runs.

But Joy carried his innings forward and made a crucial 43-run stand with Shahadat Hossain (20).

He got out in the 93rd over of the innings but the host were only seven away from a memorable win.

Shahadat also got out in the next over but that could not stop the Young Tigers winning the match and the series.

Joy, who scored 74 in the first innings, was adjudged man of the match.

Earlier in the Test, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first as England scored 337 in the first innings.

Top-order batsman Jamie Smith (90) and middle-order batsman George Hill (91) were the top scorers while Minhazur Rahman (3/106) and Mujakkir Hussain (3/74) were the best bowlers for the host.

In reply, Bangladesh were bundled out for 228 as England took a big 109-run first innings lead thanks to Kasey Aldridge’s 4/44.

Bangladesh scripted a fightback in the third innings with the bowling of Minhazur, who took 4/74 as England scored 223/8 before declaring.

Smith was once again brilliant with the bat as he top-scored with 104 from 106 balls in an innings that had nine boundaries and four sixes.

Left arm off-spinner Minhazur Rahman was adjudged man-of-the-series as he took 16 wickets in the series.

Bangladesh, who won the first youth Test by eight wickets, also clean swept the three-match ODI series and won the only T20 against the visitor in this series.
