In a new twist in the ongoing legal battle between former couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Fight Club star Pitt has sued Jolie over their shared French winery, Château Miraval.
According to People, Pitt’s legal team has filed new court documents that include communications with Jolie’s team regarding her 2021 sale of her stake in the winery, which the pair co-owned, reports NDTV
The documents feature an email from November 2023, in which Jolie’s lawyers responded to Pitt’s earlier lawsuit involving millions in damages. “The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr Pitt’s own creation — he is suing Ms Jolie for $35 million in damages. As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages,” Jolie’s lawyers wrote, as quoted by People.
Her team also noted that Pitt sought “ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations,” while accusing him of refusing to produce documents to justify his four-year NDA covering alleged personal misconduct.
Pitt initially filed the lawsuit in 2022, claiming Jolie sold her share of the winery without his consent, despite a prior agreement requiring mutual approval for any sale.
After Jolie recently invoked attorney-client privilege to withhold certain documents — which Pitt’s team has argued constitutes improper withholding — the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor renewed his demand for 22 of the contested files.
The case’s next hearing is set for December 17.
Jolie and Pitt, who share six children — Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox — separated in 2016 after 12 years together and two years of marriage. The Oscar-winning actors finalised their divorce in December 2024.
