Visionary thespian Syed Jamil Ahmed has been appointed Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). He is the founding chair of the Department of Theatre and Music at the University of Dhaka.
The news was confirmed by Hasan Mahmud, Chief Coordinator of the ICT and Innovation Cell and Assistant Director-Administration at BSA.
After the prime minister’s resignation and the subsequent downfall of the government, the previous Director General, Liaquat Ali Lucky, who occupied the post from 2011, stepped down.
Syed Jamil Ahmed was initially reluctant to take on the role but after reconsidering his decision he had a change of heart and accepted the position with open arms.
On September 9, the appointment letter was issued marking the start of a two-year contract as Director General. While acting as the Director General, he will need to cut ties with any other organisations in which he is currently involved.
