Pori Moni: Stop this game of law involving Mahi

Dhallywood film star Pori Moni on Saturday demanded the immediate release of the film actress Mahiya Mahi.

Pori Moni shared a photo of Mahi under police control and said: “Look at Mahi? Who will be responsible for this physical and psychological abuse of a pregnant woman?”

Pori Moni demanded the immediate release of Mahiya Mahi and said: “Let this game of law be stopped. Let Mahi be released immediately.”

Metropolitan Magistrate Court-5 Judge Md Iqbal Hossain's court granted bail to Mahia Mahi on Saturday evening. The same court ordered him to be sent to jail at noon.

Advocate Anwar Sadat, Advocate Ripon Chandra Sarkar and Advocate Nabijul Islam stood for Mahi in the bail hearing. Later, Advocate Anwar Sadat said: “The court has granted bail in both cases filed against Mahi. Preparations for release are now underway.”

Mahi is currently 9 months pregnant.

The GMP arrested her at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:45am on Saturday.  The actor had been in Saudia Arabia with her husband, Rakib Sarker, to perform Umrah.

A GMP team had been positioned at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport since dawn as the unit had learnt that the actor was returning home from Saudia Arabia, GMP Detective Branch Deputy Commissioner Ibrahim Hossain said.

Earlier, two separate cases were filed against Mahiya Mahi and Rakib Sarker at Gazipur's Bason police station on charges of land grabbing and tarnishing the image of the police.

Rokon Miah, sub-inspector at Bason police station, filed one case on Friday night under the Digital Security Act (DSA), accusing the couple of impairing the law and order situation by spreading fabricated information with the intention of defamation.

GMP Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam said Mahi had accused the GMP of taking “bribes” on Facebook.

Incidentally, RAB raided Porimoni's residence in August 2021. It was reported that drugs were recovered from her house. The actor was later arrested under the Narcotics Control Act and remanded for seven days three times.

Later, however, she got bail in that case.
