'Pathaan' to not be released in Bangladesh for legal complications

A conference was held on 24 January, 2023 regarding the release of the film in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The conference had the presence of Ministry's officials along with the filmmaker Kazi Hayat, Sudipto Kumar Das, the association advisor of Hall Owners etc.

After the meeting, all of them concluded that 'Pathaan' is not going to be released anytime soon due to complications in law.

The director of importation of 'Pathaan', Anonno Mamun informed Dhaka Tribune that, “Due to complexity of laws, the movie will not be released any time soon. Apparently, there are two rules applied in case of importation of foreign films; one, no film from the sub-continent is allowed to be imported, and two, foreign films can only be imported if films from both sides are traded”.

It has been informed that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will send an application to the Ministry of Commerce regarding the recent issue around 'Pathan's' release because the rules of foreign film trade have been created by the Ministry of Commerce officials.

Sudipto Kumar Das also informed, “We have talked to the officials of the Ministry's Import-Export committee about the release of the film. Valid reasons were provided from both sides regarding the release. But decisions are yet to be made. Since it is about importing a movie, the Ministry of Commerce is also involved here. Hence, we are waiting for the results.”
