Kamar Ahmad Simon’s 'Anyadin…' (Day after…) won the Harrell Awards for the best picture in the Camden International Film Festival (CIFF), a leading film festival in North America.
8 films including Kamar’s 'Anyadin…' were competing for the prestigious Harell Awards in the 18th edition of Camden. USA, Canada, France, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway, Germany, Scotland Austria, Palestine and Armenia also competed there besides Bangladesh.
'Anyadin…' was screened at the Journey’s End Theater in Rockland, Maine. On behalf of the jury, film critic Eric Hynes said: “The jury was unanimous in its admiration for this film, in which an old riverboat seems to contain an entire society’s worth of dreamers and hustlers, politicians and radicals.”
Kamar flew to Europe with Sara Afreen, the producer of 'Anyadin…' to attend the Zurich International Film Festival. There, the film will compete for the ‘Golden Eye’ award. Last November, 'Anyadin…' was invited to the main competition of IDFA, one of the Top-10 festivals in the world. ‘Anyadin…’ had won the 2014 Sundance Film Festival grant.
Kamar has been working on a “Water Trilogy” for more than a decade. “Shunte Ki Pao!” (Are You Listening!) is the first of the trilogy and ‘Anyadin…' (Day after…) is the second film. “Shunte Ki Pao!” was the curtain opener at Locarno Film Festival’s Open Doors Screening and Germany’s Dok-Leipzig. The film won many awards including Grand Prix from Cinéma du Réel, Paris, Golden Conch from Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) and Bangladesh National Film Award.
