International Short and Independent Film Festival concludes

The concluding ceremony of the 16th International Short and Independent Film Festival 2022 took place at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday, March 4.

Organized by Bangladesh Short Film Forum, the festival began on February 25 and concluded on March 4.

Bangladeshi filmmaker Laboni Ashrafi’s “Chakrabyuha” won the Tareq Shahriar Best Independent Short Film Award and Ilir Kabashi’s “Survival and School from Kosovo” won the International Competition Best Documentary Award.

Qatari filmmaker Majid Al Remaihi’s “And Then They Burn The Sea” also scored a special mention.

Sudanese-Russian filmmaker Suzannah Mirghani’ “Al-Sit won the International Competition Best Fiction Film Award and Egyptian filmmaker's "Sameh Alaa-directed I Am Afraid to Forget Your Face" bagged special mention.

The jury board for the festival included prominent film personalities AKM Zakaria, Sadia Khalid Reeti, Sameer Ahmed, RV Ramani, Ragnhild Ek and Faridur Rahman.

Information and Broaadcasting minister Hasan Mahmud, BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Bangladesh Short Film Forum President Zahidur Rahim Anjan, filmmakers Nasiruddin Yousuff and Syed Imran Hossain Kirmani were present at the closing ceremony of the festival.

This year’s festival showcased 414 films from 130 countries.
