Shilpakala celebrates 46th founding anniversary

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the national institute for developing and encouraging arts and culture, celebrated the 46th anniversary of its founding on Wednesday. 

On the occasion of the 46th founding anniversary of Shilpakala, every department and branch of the Academy has organized a week-long exhibition of their various works at Gallery 1 of National Art Gallery. The exhibition officially opened at 3pm.

In addition, 'live classes'  of the 14 subjects that are taught in Shilpakala Academy, were held from 4pm onwards, to demonstrate the teaching that takes place in the Academy. Among the 14 subjects taught in Shilpakala Academy are flute, violin, sitar, sarod, staff notation and piano, kathak dance, bharatnatyam, gourio, and odissi. Over 500 students of the Academy participated in the live classes. 

From 5:30pm at the Academy's Nandan stage, a discussion and cultural program was held to complete the celebrations for the day. Academy artists performed acrobatics, and Baul singers sang Bedhechi Emon Ghor... to begin the program.

The chief guest of the discussion was Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Cultural Affairs Ministry Ashim Kumar Ukil. Shilpakala Academy Secretary Md Badrul Anam Bhuiyan gave the welcome speech. Director General of Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the discussion.

Shilpakala Academy's singers Roksana Akhter Rupsa, Suchitra Rani Sutradhar, Himadri Shekhar, and Sohanur Rahman rendered solo song performances in the cultural segment of the program. Popular band Spandan gave the closing performance.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded Shilpakala Academy on February 19, 1974, with the goal of developing a creative and humanitarian nation. Shilpakala Academy is the only national institute for the development of art and culture in Bangladesh. 

It is under the purview of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and was mandated with the purpose of creating a cultural impact by preserving and maintaining historical and cultural activities all over the country.
