Renowned photojournalist, GMB Akash’s solo photography exhibition titled “Unseen in Our Sight: Dalits in Bangladesh” is going to be opened at the La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka on April 15.
Every day people walk down the streets of Dhaka but they never look back and think about who keeps the streets and sewer systems clean. People often ignore their contributions to the society. The number of Dalit people in the country range between 5.5 to 6.5 million.
To recognise the contribution of this community and their resilience, Christian Aid Bangladesh and Alliance Française de Dhaka have jointly organised this solo photography exhibition. The photographs were taken from across Dalit communities in Bangladesh.
Pierre Mayaudon, ambassador and the head of delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, confirmed to do the inauguration as the chief guest, while Moni Rani Das, the president of Dalit Women’s Federation, and Shakeb Nabi, the country director of Christian Aid will also attend the event. Bruno Plasse, the director of Alliance Française de Dhaka will welcome the distinguished guests.
GMB Akash, a world renowned photojournalist whose work has been published in more than hundred major international publications, while he has travelled for around 50 countries to depict life, has received more than 100 international accolades. Akash’s exhibition has been displayed in many of the world’s prestigious museums and galleries.
The exhibition will run till April 29.
