One of them is the blockbuster psychological thriller Split, directed by Indian- American director M Night Shyamalan. The James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy starrer narrates the story of three girls who are kidnapped by a man diagnosed with 23 distinct personalities. They must try to escape before the emergence of a frightful new 24th.
The other movie represents the celebrated X-men franchise, and this time it’s James Mangold’s Logan. Hugh Jackman is on the saddle again to play the renowned role of Wolverine. The story of Logan is set in 2029 and begins at a time when mutants are on the verge of extinction, Charles Xavier’s school doesn’t exist anymore and he along with Logan lead an austere life hiding near the Mexican border before getting embroiled in a life and death situation. Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Richard E Grant and Stephen Marchent are also among the cast of the movie.
Split, which was first released in the US on February 20, has already created a buzz in the box office. The movie has crossed the 200 million dollar mark and has managed a position in the topchart at a stretch for a while now.
Despite the not-so-good forecasts, Split became Shyamalan’s 6th picture to cross the $200 million threshold, and Blumhouse’s second highest grossing title ever, behind Paranormal Activity 3. The Indian born director, screenwriter, producer and actor has already been commended for his contemporary supernatural plots and twist endings.
On the other hand, the R-rated, violence heavy, Logan hit 4,071 theatres on Friday throughout the world including Star Cineplex. With Mangold once again at the helm, a bunch of rave reviews from its Berlin premiere, a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, an 8.9 rating on IMDb and at $18K per theatre, the movie should end up making history at the box office. At least until Beauty and the Beast shows up in theatres, which is two weeks from now.
