Think of the children

A large portion of the Bangladeshi population consists of younger people, and the government recognizes the significance they hold for the future of our nation. While many initiatives are taken to build a strong foundation for the youth to thrive in, there still seem to be some gaps that need to be filled.

A major obstacle to the complete and holistic growth of our children remains the lack of open spaces and playgrounds in our country for them to play in. This is especially true in various schools, and is responsible for a number of setbacks for children.

It is certainly praiseworthy in this regard that, as per the decision of the prime minister, 33 primary schools in Tungipara were provided with playgrounds, which had previously offered no space or facilities for extra-curricular activities for students.

This is an important initiative, and must be extended towards not only schools in other parts of the country, but also in cities with little to no free space where citizens can enjoy some respite.

Playgrounds and open spaces enable children to not only participate in activities that significantly benefit them physically, but also positively impact their mental well-being. Engaging in sports is also known to be a helpful tool for children to learn social skills, boost their confidence, and obtain a general sense of responsibility -- all of which are crucial for their development.

Alongside updating school curricula to ensure improved educational qualifications for future generations, the authorities must also prioritize the physical and mental well-being of our children.

If we are to expect our young generation to be the future leaders of our nation, we must equip them with all the right tools for a more healthy and integrated upbringing, so they can successfully take our country to newer heights.
