Second Rohingya leader killed in span of 12hrs

Another Rohingya leader was killed in a span of 12 hours, in Balukhali camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar early Sunday.

The deceased was Mohammad Selim, 35, son of Abdus Sobhan of the camp.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhiya police station Sheikh Mohammad Ali said Selim was killed after a group of miscreants “from Arsa” called him from his house early in the morning and shot him.

A police team reached the spot after receiving the information, but the miscreants had already fled the area, he said.

Police are carrying out operations to nab the perpetrators, he added.

Mohammad Zafar, a resident of Ukhiya's Balukhali Kutupalong Camp-8 East, said all Rohingya leaders of the camp were always vocal against Arsa. Maybe Selim was gunned down because of this.

“Criminal groups in the camp are trying to become active again. As a result, two murders occurred in the camp within 12 hours. People of the camp are now in fear of them,” he added.

Earlier, a Rohingya leader named Md Rashid was stabbed to death at the Ukhiya refugee camp on Saturday night.
